Heaven’s Time

Chest constricts

expands

ripping my broken

heart.

I can only imagine

your suffering.

Rushed breaths

fill the quiet.

Your body bounces

with the struggle.

Your ribs rise and fall

like a dying empire.

Your heart races

against a clock

wound against you.

Your brothers wait

for you in a pain free

Heaven

and I’ll see you there

in

time.

Very Short Stories, Week 15

Good morning, friends! Couple things to share today…

This week, My hubby and I are taking one of our nephews to stay with us. There’ll probably be some Pokemon Go and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. Swimming, splash pads, day trips. Or maybe a more lazy week with in home reading and crafting. Who knows!

Because of this, I will most likely be absent from my blog and less active on Twitter (if you follow me on there; if not, here’s me! @KEMwriting ). There’s no point trying to guarantee blog posts when I’m going to be focused on having fun and laughs with my nephew!

It also means little editing will be done on my book. I plan on making time for it since the writer’s life for me will eventually mean children of my own. This will be a great way to figure that aspect out more.

While I’m off for a week of joy and adventures, I hope this week is fulfilling for the rest of you! Take care!

Oh, and enjoy my very short stories just below!

July 23rd

This is #folly, she cried and barrelled out the open window of the train compartment after her friend. She heard a splash seconds before cold water surrounded her, pulling at her limbs. Unbuttoning her heavy clothes, she sprung to the surface and sought out her friend.

July 24th

Such a waste of time, she determined and slammed her laptop closed. What a #joke, thinking I could be a writer. She tossed her USB across the room and left it there like a piece of forgotten trash.

Pick me up now, it seemed to say from the floor. We’re not done yet.

July 25th

Vivian stepped out of her room and the black dress clung to her body like a wet glove. A hesitant smile played on her lips as she descended the staircase. In front of Damian’s hungry gaze, her cheeks turned scarlet.

His kiss was sudden yet she #answered it with passion.

July 26th

Give ’em #hell, his dad said and tapped his gloves.

He entered the cage to the roars of the crowd and threw his arms up high with his own shout. Pacing back and forth, he watched his opponent. They approached each other, knocked fists and squared up.

The bell rang.

July 27th

What’s your #intent with my son? she asked. Her legs were crossed, hands rested on her knee.

I plan on making him happy til the end of my days, he answered and smiled. He fiddled with the ring box in his pocket.

That settles it then. You have my blessing, she grinned.

July 28th

Do you get it yet?

I want You gone

Disappear

Vanish

Into a Darkness

only You can

Summon

Tired of cruel whims

that Sabotage my attempts

You’re a bad taste

Lingering

Unwanted

I #renounce You

and Your Tainted Touch

Vilify

Condemn

Your Traitorous ways

Goodbye, Reflection

July 29th

#Stray dogs littered the streets; unwanted and untended. She shook her head at the sight until a wet nose kissed her hand. Smiling, she stroked the ragged pup and it demanded belly rubs. I can’t save them all but I can save this one, she mused and took it home with her.

Love Ages

Heart flutters in the chest

The Mind knows not to rest

First kisses taste the best

Love Sickness at its worst

Longing fit to burst

To deal with Lust’s thirst

Thrills fill the start

Can’t ever be apart

Don’t want to depart

Time shifts Love’s power

It no longer devours

No longer Lust’s hour

Now companions in life

Sharing its strife

And both thrive

Very Short Stories, Week 13

Good morning! I’m glad I survived another week of impromptu problems.

Friday the 5th, I accidentally triggered a massive clog in a branch line for our laundry and kitchen sinks. Friday the 12th, the problem was actually fixed after about $900 had been spent.

The week saw a great many anxiety attacks as I played phone tag with the plumbers, but now… I’m feeling a lot lighter in terms of mood.

However, my very short stories this week may have been affected by it all. Here’s hoping you manage to enjoy them anyways!

July 9th

#Beneath starry skies
Eyes divine the lies
Of an unkind mind.

Inner audience
Applaud a Godliness,
Destructive and callous.

Yet race time’s clock
Like a fired glock.
Dodge Death and decay.

Goals are our souls
Filling the holes
Of mortality’s game.

July 10th

The witch pulled back her dark curtains and watched the costumed children run from house to house. Lips curled in a snarl at the sight of green skin and a wart under the pointy, black hat. Holding an abalone shell, she meditated.

‘How I hate #trick or treating.’

July 11th

#Fury’s hands tightened around her throat. Fingers dug into soft flesh, yielding, and the faint pulse vibrated through its arm. Its black eyes watched tears well in her dying gaze, unempathetic.

Her last breath was a mumbled sorry, guilty.

Her last sight, Hellish Fire.

July 12th

The #tunnel curled, spiraling downwards inside the Earth, and they followed its steep descent. Footsteps echoed louder than the hushed whispers of the ragged group. Their lights caused the coloured quartz to glow, a stunning rainbow that faded in the depths of the rock.

July 13th

‘There’s #precious little time in the day,’ she whispered into his ear and roused him.

‘What’d you say?’

‘I said get up!’ she said markedly louder against his face, ‘We have dinner plans with my parents, remember?’

Finally sitting, he muttered, ‘But it’s nap time…’

July 14th

The sun’s rays shone upon the #boy’s neck, burning skin slow as a snail. Sweat beaded, fell, and formed again; the taste of salt strong on his tongue. Calloused feet carried his bony body forward down the asphalt road. Its stinging heat unfelt by worn soles.

July 15th

A #torrent of rain ripped through the roof. She woke to its cold water pounding down on her and soaking the confines of her room. Frantic, she rushed about, collecting memories in the form of photos and figurines.

She abandoned them when the flooding reached her knees.

Wings Fall

Feathered wings beat the sky beneath

Rising higher and higher.

She smiled at the sun, its welcome warmth

And soared through the clouds.

Her hand reached for the softness of the blue sea

Yet grasped nothing within her palm.
Her red curls danced on her ivory shoulders

Now in the darkness above the clouds.

The stars shimmered, pure joy

And she breathed deep of the night.

Time passed slow as a blink

And she let herself plummet to the ground.

She sunk as if she were a rock dropped

And she savoured every moment of the fall.

Apologies

Hello! It’s been a while since I did a post. A lot longer than it should have been if I am honest. Shit happens though.

After spending most of April sick with various things, I’ve struggled to get back on top of things. My energy has been an all time low, and my moods have been wonky to boot, too. It wasn’t helped by the continually rainy weather, and the lack of time the day seems to hold. My growing to-do list was the final straw on this camel’s back.

So….

Today, Andrew and I cleaned the house from top to bottom. Fur covered everything as did dust, and dirty paw/foot prints, too. I guess that’s what happens when you drop the ball on cleaning, and your husband has no idea how to do it without you.

It got done though!

The slump I’ve been in is slowly dissipating, and getting the house all sorted was exactly what I needed to get back on top. However, I wouldn’t have been able to do it this weekend if my sister hadn’t helped me start working out again. Doing yoga every day, and holding each other accountable, has been the cherry on top. I’m sore from it, but progress is pain!

Tomorrow, we’ll be doing a few other things in the backyard in time for true spring/summer to arrive! Putting up some solar lights for ambience (and functionality so our dogs don’t get sprayed by skunks), and prepping the veggie garden. We’ll empty some of the pots of the old plants from last year since pick up of yard work stuff is this week.

The big thing I’m excited about though, is this Tuesday! My reader is done double checking my new sections of my book, and I can start editing/revising it again! YAAAYYYYYY!!!!!!

Full disclosure, she finished it last weekend, but multiple appointments for my mom, husband, and myself kept me from getting started on it. (Plus the aforementioned slump). But I’m starting it this week and I can’t wait!

Tonight, I’m treating myself to a girls’ night in with my mom, a friend, and my future sister-in-law! I might even have a true drink! Who knows?!

Anyways, I’m feeling more energetic, happy, and just in general better so hopefully I’ll be posting more!

Take care of yourselves!

Fire’s Future

All flames burn down to ashes,
Left unattended, abandoned.
Much like gardens left to weeds,
And sparse rain falls.

Looking at my fire,
It weakens, only to grow again.

The wood I carry,
My dreams, my hopes, my desires,
But I carry my failures,
And my shortcomings, too.
If I burn only for a future,
What point was the past?

Learn from the letdowns,
And burn brighter for it.

The phoenix I hold inside,
Might die with the cruel waves of time.
It has come close before,
But still, I stroke it’s soft feathers,
And step forward into the night.
I will make my own sunshine,
My own fair weather days.

Until then, I prod the wood on fire,
And add fuel to its crimson flames.

Love Potion

Poetry soothes my soul with its directness and metaphors. It is a friendly creature, but changes it form, consistency, just like water. I have not written a poem in some time, it feels, so here is one today. (I forgot to include Saturday and Sunday plans in my writing schedule. Oops!)

There is no special
way, to find your forever.
It happens when it’s

Time. No more, no less.
Be yourself, be patient, and
the one will find you.

Throw out lines, baited,
if you must, but don’t forget
chasing love scares it.

It is timid and
slow to eat from the hand
it is offered, friend.
Something that you feel will find its own form. ~ Jack Kerouac

Restless (A Dizain Poem + Update)

Can’t stay still, can’t be bored, can’t close your eyes.
Keep moving, keep doing, keep producing.
Sleep is for the lazy, best chase your prize.
Ignore the slowing of time, keep trying.
When sun runs out, the moon will be rising.
Keep scratching that itch and hope it will pass.
Fill the void, the hours, with task after task.
Wish to God you could sit, relax, and breathe.
But there’s plenty to do, get off your ass.
No break from its hold, forget a reprieve.
P.S. I have started revising my book again. Guess this restlessness or anxiety can be good for something after all. I try and force myself to take breaks anyways, because they are necessary.
P.S.S. Take care of yourselves!

Time To Play!

I can’t believe how much I have done since 5 am! Cleaned my house from top to bottom (I will admit to tidying last night), and I shoveled my driveway and my neighbour’s. Now, I have time to play!

My sister asked me if she could come over and hang out for a little bit and I obviously agreed (part of why I felt the need to clean). She will be here around 11:30am(ish) after an interview for a new job. I’ll be playing hostess until about 2:30pm when I will take her to school and pick her up at 5:30pm.

As I have said in previous posts, I am not someone with a lot (or any) friends. I’d love that to change, but as it stands, my family and husband is all I got. Thus I love the fact my sister reached out to me. There has always been an invitation to message her and hang, but with her in university, I feel guilty stealing any of her time. She has friends and a boyfriend (who seems to be good for her), and those are who she spends her free time with when not studying or working weekends.

Since I spend 80% of my time alone, it will be nice to have some fun talk time! I will have to keep from starting arguments though. It’s my curse how easy I can start a fight and without ever meaning to. I’m hoping she’ll enjoy the time away from our parents’ place and the argument zone it can be from time to time.

This is probably the best part of being an older sibling. I get to provide a (kind of) safe place away from home. We all have gone through those times where we wanted nothing more than to run away from our parents. It doesn’t always have anything to do with them and their treatment of us; just a need for free space and independence.

Anyways I’m going to take a boiling hot shower, scrub myself clean, and relax until she gets here! Take care of yourselves!
